When the off-the-shelf cover doesn't fit your home — we engineer one that does.

Freestanding gazebos. Gable rooflines. Cantilevered overhangs with no front posts. Multi-tier builds wrapping a pool or kitchen. Architectural covers that look like they were part of the original house. Mr. Patio Cover designs and builds to the site — and backs every custom install with the same 5-Star Lifetime Guarantee.

Six Specialty Build Types

If it's not a simple rectangle, this is the page.

These are the most common custom patio cover builds Mr. Patio Cover engineers. If yours isn't on the list, it probably still belongs here — bring it up on the consult.

01

Freestanding

Detached from the house — over a pool deck, outdoor kitchen, fire pit, or lounge area. Same structural engineering and lifetime install guarantee as attached covers.

$15K – $35K typical
02

Gable / Pitched Roof

Pitched roofline adds architectural height, lets ceiling fans hang higher, and improves air circulation. Matches an existing home gable for a built-in look.

$15K – $30K typical
03

Cantilevered

No front posts. Engineered to project out from the house — opens sightlines from inside the home and keeps the patio uncluttered. Premium engineering required.

$20K – $45K typical
04

Multi-Tier / Stepped

Two or three height levels. Often used to define an outdoor kitchen, bar, and lounge area separately under one continuous cover.

$25K – $50K typical
05

Architectural Match

Powder-coat color matching, fascia detailing, gable angles, and trim to mirror the existing home. The cover should look like it was always there.

+$3K – $8K over base
06

Pool / Spa Surrounds

Wraps existing pool decks, spa enclosures, or water features. Engineered around plumbing, drainage, and code clearances. Lattice, solid, or hybrid panels available.

$18K – $40K typical

From Specialty Owners

"Three other companies said it couldn't be done. MPC engineered it."

"We wanted a 16-foot cantilever — no front posts — over the back patio. Three other companies said the engineering wouldn't pencil. Mr. Patio Cover ran the numbers, redesigned the attachment point, and built exactly what we asked for."

Specialty · Frequently Asked

The questions that come up on every custom build.

What counts as a specialty or custom patio cover?+
Anything that doesn't fit a standard rectangle attached to the house. Freestanding covers in the middle of the yard, gable-style covers with a pitched roof, cantilevered covers with no front posts, multi-tier or stepped builds, covers wrapping around pool features, and architectural builds that match a specific roofline or style — these are all specialty work Mr. Patio Cover handles regularly.
How much does a custom patio cover cost?+
Specialty builds typically run $12,000–$60,000+ depending on size, complexity, materials, and engineering required. A freestanding gazebo-style cover usually lands in the $15K–$25K range. Cantilevered builds with no front posts trend higher because of the engineering. Multi-tier or architectural builds with custom finishes can exceed $50K. Exact number quoted on the free in-home consultation.
Do specialty covers come with the same lifetime guarantee?+
Yes. Every Mr. Patio Cover install — including the most complex custom builds — carries the same 5-Star Lifetime install guarantee: leak-free for life, wind protected, workmanship for life, 30-day completion ($100/day if late), and a clean build with daily comms.
Can you match my home's roofline or trim color?+
Yes. Mr. Patio Cover does powder-coat color matching, fascia detail to mirror the home, and gable angles that match an existing roofline. Most of our specialty work involves making the cover look like it was part of the original architecture.
Can I have a freestanding cover (away from the house)?+
Yes — freestanding covers are one of the most common specialty builds, typically over pool decks, fire pits, outdoor kitchens, or detached lounge areas. They get the same structural engineering and lifetime install guarantee as attached covers.
Do you do gable-style (pitched roof) covers?+
Yes. Gable covers add architectural height, allow ceiling fans to hang higher, and let air circulate better than flat-pan covers. They typically cost $3K–$7K more than a flat insulated cover of the same size because of the engineering and extra material.
How long does a specialty install take?+
Most specialty builds install in 2–5 days. Multi-tier or architectural builds can run 1–2 weeks. Full timeline from sign to finish is 3–6 weeks once permits clear. Mr. Patio Cover handles all permits and HOA paperwork.
