What Solid-Top Means

A single sheet of powder-coated aluminum, engineered to last in Southern California weather.

1
Powder-coated aluminum, single skin. Reflects sun, sheds rain, won't rust or rot. Same material as the top skin of an insulated panel — just without the foam core.
2
Sealed seams + integrated downspouts. No leaks, no exposed fasteners on top. Water drains through hidden channels.
3
Visible rafters underneath. The structural beams show. Some owners love the honest construction look — and you save the cost of a finished ceiling.
4
Engineered for SoCal wind & sun. Same wind ratings and structural standards as our insulated covers. Same crews, same craftsmanship — same lifetime install guarantee.

Decision Help

When non-insulated is the smart pick. When you should upgrade.

We're not going to talk you into a panel you don't need.

Pick Non-Insulated If

You want shade and rain protection on a smart budget.

  • Budget is the deciding factor — saves $3K–$6K vs insulated
  • Mild coastal climate where peak heat isn't the main pain
  • Detached or rarely-used patio
  • You won't be mounting ceiling fans or recessed lighting
  • You're OK with visible rafters underneath

Upgrade to Insulated If

You want the patio cool enough to actually use in summer.

  • Inland Empire / OC / anywhere that hits 95°F+ regularly
  • You plan to install fans, lights, or speakers
  • You want a finished, ceiling-like look underneath
  • You hate loud rain noise
  • You may enclose the patio someday (insulated is the foundation)
$3K–$6K more, 10–20° cooler, way quieter. See insulated →

From Non-Insulated Owners

"Got the cover I wanted, for the price I wanted, with the warranty I needed."

★★★★★

"We thought insulated was overkill for our coastal yard. Mr. Patio Cover walked us through both options and didn't pressure us — picked non-insulated, saved $4K, and the cover is exactly what we needed."

"Six bids came back with the cheapest at $11K for solid non-insulated. MPC was $9,800 and had the only lifetime guarantee. Easy call. Three years in — zero issues, zero comebacks."

Everything we get asked before the consult.

How much does a non-insulated patio cover cost?+
Most non-insulated projects run $7,000–$14,000. A typical 300–400 sq ft cover lands around $9,000–$11,000. The final number depends on size, posts, post wraps, and any HOA or engineering needs — all walked through on the free in-home consultation.
What's the actual difference between non-insulated and insulated?+
Non-insulated uses a single skin of powder-coated aluminum. Insulated sandwiches a 3" foam core (R-13) between two aluminum skins. Insulated runs 10–20°F cooler under the cover, is conversation-quiet in rain, and presents a finished ceiling. Non-insulated is 5–10°F cooler, louder, and shows visible rafters. Non-insulated typically costs $3K–$6K less.
Is the lifetime guarantee the same?+
Yes. Every Mr. Patio Cover install — insulated, non-insulated, lattice, or Velaro louvered — gets the same 5-Star Lifetime install guarantee: leak-free for life, wind protected, workmanship for life, 30-day completion ($100/day if late), clean build with daily comms.
When is non-insulated the smarter pick?+
When budget is the deciding factor, the patio is detached or rarely used, you live in a milder coastal climate, or you don't plan to mount ceiling fans, recessed lights, or speakers. If you want the patio cool enough to use daily in summer, insulated is worth the upgrade.
How long does install take?+
Most non-insulated builds install in 1 day. Full timeline from sign to finish is 2–4 weeks once permits clear. We handle the permit and HOA paperwork — included.
Will it leak?+
No. Sealed seams, flashings, and integrated downspouts are part of every install. Leak-free for life is one of the five written promises in the 5-Star Lifetime Guarantee — if water ever intrudes, we fix it at our cost.
Can I upgrade from non-insulated to insulated later?+
Generally no — the panel system is different and the structure is engineered for the panel weight you start with. If you think you may want insulated within a year or two, pay the upgrade now. The lifetime install guarantee transfers regardless.
