What Lattice Is

Open-slat aluminum, engineered for partial sun control and architectural impact.

1
Open aluminum slats, spaced apart. Powder-coated for sun-stability. Gaps let breeze through and rain drain naturally — no flat surface for water to pool on.
2
50–70% sun blockage. Slat spacing tunes the shade level. Tighter spacing = more shade. We dial it in with you during the consultation.
3
Architectural definition. Lattice draws lines across your patio — visual structure that anchors the space, even without sealing the roof.
4
Climbing plant ready. Wisteria, bougainvillea, grape vines. Lattice was made for it — and Mr. Patio Cover can engineer extra support points wherever the plant needs them.
All Three Side-by-Side

Lattice vs Non-Insulated vs Insulated — pick by what you need.

All three are aluminum. All three carry the same lifetime install guarantee. The difference is how much sun and rain you want overhead — and how much you want to spend.

Decision Help

When lattice is the right call. When you should pick a solid cover instead.

Pick Lattice If

You want overhead structure without sealing the patio off.

  • Budget-first project — lowest entry point
  • You like partial sun and don't need full shade
  • You want to grow vines across it
  • Coastal or mild climate where peak heat isn't the pain
  • You want architectural lines over a deck, walkway, or pool surround

Pick Solid Instead If

You want full shade and rain protection.

  • You want a dry patio in the rain
  • You're in the Inland Empire and need real heat relief
  • You're mounting ceiling fans or recessed lights
  • You want the patio cool enough to use mid-summer
  • You may enclose the patio someday
See non-insulated → ($7K–$14K) or insulated → ($10K–$20K).

"We wanted partial shade over the pool deck for the wisteria to climb. MPC was the only company that nailed the slat spacing on the first try. Looks gorgeous, came in at $7,200."

Lattice · Frequently Asked

Everything we get asked before the consult.

How much does a lattice patio cover cost?+
Most lattice projects run $5,000–$10,000. A typical 200–300 sq ft cover lands around $6,500–$8,000. Exact number depends on size, slat spacing, post wraps, and any HOA / engineering requirements — all walked through on the free in-home consultation.
How is lattice different from a solid patio cover?+
Lattice uses open aluminum slats spaced apart, so sun, breeze, and rain pass through. You get partial shade, structural definition, and an architectural overhead — but not full sun blockage or rain protection. Solid covers (non-insulated or insulated) seal the roof so you get full shade and a dry patio underneath.
Will a lattice cover block enough sun?+
Lattice blocks roughly 50–70% of direct sun depending on slat spacing. It softens the heat without sealing the patio off from the breeze. If you need full shade or a dry patio in the rain, you'll want a solid non-insulated or insulated cover instead.
Can you grow vines on a lattice cover?+
Yes — homeowners often train wisteria, bougainvillea, or grape vines across lattice covers for a softer, more organic look. Mr. Patio Cover can engineer additional support points and recommend slat spacing that works for the plant you have in mind.
Is the lifetime guarantee the same?+
Yes. Every Mr. Patio Cover install — lattice, non-insulated, insulated, or Velaro motorized louvered — is backed by the same 5-Star Lifetime install guarantee: leak-free for life, wind protected, workmanship for life, 30-day completion ($100/day if late), and a clean build with daily comms.
How long does install take?+
Most lattice patio covers install in 1 day. Full timeline from sign to finish is 2–4 weeks once permits clear. Mr. Patio Cover handles permits and HOA paperwork — included.
Can I add a fan or lights to a lattice cover?+
Fan mounting points can be engineered into the beam where a solid section connects. String lights are easy to run through the slats. Recessed lighting is not an option on lattice (you need a solid panel for that) — if recessed lights matter, look at insulated.
